I am currently looking for a program that has the ability to recover lost data from DVDs due to damage.  One of my son's favorite shows which I had originally burned to a disk has gotten damaged and I cannot rip & reburn it much to his dismay.

Do ya have anything that can help me?

Thanks in advance!

                    Oh Dear!

That's a Sticky (and Scratchy) one!

Technically that is not possible because of the nature of the damage itself - especially in the case of deep optical scratches: they scatter the laser light attempting to read from either Layer (One layer in the case of DVD+R) on the DVD and no bits are returned.

But I've got something in my Santa bag for you anyways, (I hope).

First: let's think outside the box. I'll need a little more Data please:
                    • You Said 'one of his favorite shows.'  Which one?

                    • From TV?

                    • A Movie?

                    • You Said you Burned it before ...  From what source?

                    • Could you get the show from another source?

                    • The Public Library in MY Neighborhood has LOTS of DVDs to Loan. That's how I get Movies ....

                    • Have you tried buying that episode from the iTunes video store (Requires iTunes)

                    • Treat the DVD to make it readable again.

                    • Wash the DVD

                    • Resurface the DVD with one of those CD Doctors

I'll look for a ripper that can skip bad sectors in a bit.

A friend was backing up her DVD collection and she made an extra of this movie for the boys.

I ripped & burned it from the disk given to us by the friend.  It had a minor scratch in it when she gave it to us making for a small freeze point in the movie.  So I decided to try & rip & re-burn it which my computer was able to still read it at that point and burned a successful copy.  But being a favorite movie it has suffered many scratches since then.

Thanks for your help, Carl.  You know how kids are, once they get hung up on something they dont let up, and he is making me crazy over it, lol.  Guess I need to back up their own collection of movies a COUPLE of times to prevent this from happening in the future.

HO-Ho-ho! Santa doesn't have any software for you: so Sorry!

iTunes is FREE and has a really cool Internet streaming radio built in. Ice Age 2 is only listed as a soundtrack (all 32 tracks) for only $9.99

But There is good news   Grin  , And there is Bad news!  Cry

The next week you will get a new copy of Ice Age 2 ... (I predict): Ah! It's Done!

Santa's got your Address if the return address on the envelope you last sent him is correct!  Cool

What goes around comes around ... and don't forget Santa has 6 hard drives on this beast of a computer (totaling a TERABYTE of DATA) ... I've got 900 Gigs of "Only Goddess knows what" in this "Pouch of Plenty" I'm running here ... (Including some Files I made in 1998)

And there just happened to be a 4.3 Gigabyte file marked IAII_FF.toast lost on one of those many 300 Gigabyte external hard drives! WHY, I'd forgotten ALL About it! It somehow fell into my clutches and I packed it away like Scrat stores Nuts late last year!

So I dug around my nuts and found them! Just like a giant acorn all juicy and hot: I'll be done toasting it in a minute ...

                    Help is on it's way.

The Bad news? I've been away 5 days and you could have had it by now ....   Cry   Cry

OK, Maybe I'll watch a minute or two of it before I find an envelope ...

So you never had a scratch-free copy of it? Did the copy you made from the scratched up master have all the extras on it also? I know your current copy does  Wink .

Did they play Shrek 3 to death yet? Don't forget that all the Santa's DVDs have ALL the extra's onboard. Santa is an exceedingly fine craftsman - got to uphold the ancient Claus traditions, right? Don't forget to put the Copied Shrek 3 DVD in the computer and play the "Royal Tournament Games" they are a LOT of Fun and can get the boys out of your hair for a couple of minutes. I like Gingy's Slide (Screaming "Go, Baby, Go!) SO much!

My G5 computer is still in the shop.   Sad  I need parts to get the old G4 system running halfway reasonably. (I already swapped out it's hard drive - now I've got to find a PRAM Battery for it ... {That's the Mac equivalent of the CMOS Battery on Windows Systems}).

Please tell the others at the forum I'll be gone longer & I miss them.
