The Direct Connect network is a decentralized network, made up of individual servers (hubs) that users join to share files with other members on that hub. Each hub is individually run by a fellow user of the Direct Connect network, and may have certain themes to the content on the hub. DC++ only runs on Windows NT based operating systems such as Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If you run Windows 95, 98, or ME, you can try version 0.699, but your experience may not be the same.If you have experience in C++ programming, the source code for DC++ is also available. To compile DC++, you will need tools from MinGW. For versions prior to 0.700, the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 ( 0.699 ) or Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 ( <= 0.698 ) is required. Although DC++ is free, Microsoft Visual Studio is not, so in order to compile these versions you will need to purchase a license. Refer to compile.txt in the source package for more information.DC++ is distributed with language files included. By default it will use the language specified in Windows locale settings. You can change it in Settings ? Appearance ? Language.
