Quote
DC++ announces the freedom to share! DC++ is an open source client for Windows for the Direct Connect network. Direct Connect allows you to share files over the Internet without restrictions or limits. The client is completely free of advertisements and has a nice, easy to use interface. Firewall and router support is integrated and it is easy and convenient to use functionality like multi-hub connections, auto-connections and resuming of downloads.
First time user?

DC++ is a highly ranked piece of software among the projects hosted at Sourceforge. With more than fifty million downloads, new users continue to find benefits from the software every day. If you're new to DC++ don't hesitate to take a moment to browse the forum or read the frequently asked questions. However, the simplicity of the software user interface will help you get started in no-time.

DC++ is a client for the Direct Connect file sharing network. The Direct Connect network is a decentralized network, made up of individual servers (hubs) that users join to share files with other members on that hub. Each hub is individually run by a fellow user of the Direct Connect network, and may have certain themes to the content on the hub. Hub owners set up rules to regulate their hub as they see fit.
Features

DC++ is, based on observable factors, the most prevalent client on the Direct Connect network. Below are some of its features:

    * No ads, spyware, or bundled software that you don't need
    * Open source software, code freely available under the GNU GPL
    * Joins multiple hubs at the same time
    * List of bookmark-like favorite hubs and users
    * Shares large files and many files per your organization scheme
    * Tiger Tree Hashes (TTH) used for file integrity
    * Search across all (or selected) connected hub by type, size, or name
    * Resume of downloads, with optional search for alternate sources
    * Logging options and configuration for chat, private messages, downloads, and uploads
    * Autoconfiguration of UPnP routers
    * MAGNET link support for linking to specific content
    * Automatic and manual download priorities
    * Saving of user's file lists for browsing and queueing
    * Translation into other languags by custom supplied gettext po language files
    * Segmented downloading

The downloads

The client can be downloaded, precompiled and ready to run. DC++ only runs on Windows NT based operating systems such as Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If you run Windows 95, 98, or ME, you can try version 0.699, but your experience may not be the same.

If you have experience in C++ programming, the source code for DC++ is also available. To compile DC++, you will need tools from MinGW. For versions prior to 0.700, the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 ( 0.699 ) or Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 ( <= 0.698 ) is required. Although DC++ is free, Microsoft Visual Studio is not, so in order to compile these versions you will need to purchase a license. Refer to compile.txt in the source package for more information.

DC++ is distributed with language files included. By default it will use the language specified in Windows locale settings. You can change it in Settings ? Appearance ? Language. You can help translating DC++ to your own language using a web based translating interface.
Package information

DC++ comes with three files:

A general Windows Installer that sets up DC++ for your immediate usage ( into your Program Files folder, with shortcuts and everything ), this file is of the form DCPlusPlus-???.exe

A general binary archive that can be unzipped anywhere and used right away ( without any shortcuts or registry information ), this file is of the form DCPlusPlus-???.zip

And an archive with the source code, this is the actual source that is used for compiling and creating the executable that is distributed in the other packages. Usually you don't need this unless you are an experienced programmer and want to see how the source code looks like, this file is of the form DCPlusPlus-???-src.zip
