WELCOME TO THE TICO WEBSITE!! TICO is the 'Project of the month' of SourceForge, December 2011TICO (an acronym of the Spanish Tableros Interactivos de COmunicación) is a tool for the design and execution of interactive communication boards. The tool is composed of two different applications: the Editor and the Interpreter. With the Editor you can design boards containing cell-items, which can be related to images, sounds, environment control as well as some navigation links among the set of boards contained in a TICO project. A set of related boards is organised in what is called a "TICO project". Once designed, a TICO project can be executed (interpreted) with the Interpreter. In the execution, an automatic browsing can be organised so that the cells are visited according to the pre-defined browsing order. When a mouse click is generated over the active cell, the set of associated actions is then executed. This makes it very easy to prepare different environments that can help disabled people to communicate. Of course, also a manual browsing is possible. Usage contextTICO has been developed as a joint effort of the Dept. of Computer Science and Systems Engineering of the University of Zaragoza and the Public School for Special Education Alborada , belonging to the government of the region of Aragon. This collaboration has as its main aim the development of hardware and software tools to help physically or mentally disabled people. One of the objectives is to make the tools available to as many people as possible. Therefore, the tools are available for free and distributed under GNU GPL licence, versión 3, at the disposal of any private individuals or institutions.Currently, the project is supported by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the "Diputación General de Aragón" Tico Project The main idea that motivated this project was to move the traditional definition of a printed communication board towards a computing environment in order to take advantage of the capabilities that it provides.Tico Editor e1.0.The initial objective of this project was the design and development of a software tool, making it easier for people with severe disorders in oral expression to interact with the environment, and increasing their level of independence and opportunities. Moreover, the application is equipped with a scanning function that sequentially selects the elements present on the board. This function can be used with physical devices other than mouses, and provides people with motor disabilities with accessibility.Given the versatility of the program, the second objective was for TICO to be used as a means of access to different areas of the curriculum, through the design of activities prepared for this purpose. Finally, TICO was designed as an interface for future environment control implementations, enabling its use outside communication. The TICO project consists of two separate and different, but complementary applications: the Editor and the Interpreter.Tico Interpreter e1.0.The Editor enables the creation of communication boards adapted to individual needs and characteristics of each user. From this application, we can define and configure all the elements-visual, auditive, environment control, etc.- that make up the board, and will be used both for the communication and for the implementation of actions that control the environment. The Interpreter allows the end user to use the previously designed boards to overcome communication limitations. This application is equipped with the scanning function to enable full access to those people with serious motor disabilities. One of the most important things, and the one that has taken most work, is the accumulation of user-selected cells at the bottom of the screen window, which allows to generate and articulate sentences with a syntactic structure similar to that used in spontaneous oral communication
