Google Desktop's Quick Search Box allows you to easily search your computer or the Internet from your Windows desktop.
Opening the Quick Search Box

There are five ways to open the Quick Search Box:

    * Press the Ctrl key twice (Ctrl+Ctrl).
    * Double-click the Desktop icon (a multi-colored swirl) in your system tray.
    * Double-click the Desktop icon on your Windows desktop.
    * Go to the Start menu > Programs > Google Desktop > Google Desktop
    * If you're using the latest version of Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, you may have a Google button on your taskbar, which also launches the Quick Search Box.

Closing the Quick Search Box

To make the Quick Search Box disappear temporarily, press the Ctrl key twice again, or click anywhere outside of the box.
Customizing the Quick Search Box
Keyboard shortcut

If you'd like to enable or disable the Ctrl+Ctrl shortcut for the Quick Search Box in the latest version of Desktop, just follow these steps:

   1. Open the Quick Search Box.
   2. Click Options.
   3. Select or deselect the checkbox next to 'Enable Quick Search Box with Hotkey.' You can also enable snippets and select whether to search Desktop, search the Internet, or open programs and files by default.
   4. Click Close to apply your changes.

   1. Click the Desktop icon in your system tray.
   2. Select Preferences or Options.
   3. Click the Display tab, and select your settings in the 'Quick Search Box' section.
   4. Select or deselect the checkbox next to 'Enable Quick Search Box with Hotkey.'
   5. Click Save Preferences to apply the change.

The Google button

If you want to remove the Google button completely, simply right-click the button and select Exit. Make sure to deselect the 'Yes, start the quick search box when my computer restarts' checkbox if you don't want it to display in the future.
