Description SuperTuxKart is a kart racing game featuring Tux and friends. It is a fun-racer game, focusing on fun and ease of play.

Features

    Race with Tux and Friends
Explore several tracks - NEW in 1.0 is the Ravensbridge Manor Track!
Play online against your friends, against AI Drivers, or in split-screen mode - against the 'local' friends - at your place!
Play in various modes: normal race, time trial, soccer mode, battle mode, follow-the-leader, Easter Egg Hunt, Ghost Replay, and the new Capture-The-Flag mode.

SuperTuxKart is a Free 3d kart racing game; we want to make the game fun more than we want to make it realistic. You can play with up to 4 friends on one PC, racing against each other, or just try to beat the computer, and FINALLY a NEW network multiplayer feature lets you play against online friends.

See the great lighthouse or drive through the sand and visit the pyramids. Race underground or in space, watching the stars passing by. Have some rest under the palms on the beach (watching the other karts overtaking you :) ). But don't eat the bananas! Watch for bowling balls, plungers, bubble gum and cakes thrown by opponents.

You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, try to beat the high score in time trials on your own, play battle mode against your friends, and more!

Version 1.2 in 2020: What's new?

August 27, 2020:  SupertuxKart 1.2 release

The SuperTuxKart team is happy to announce the release of version 1.2. Online play is still compatible with previous 1.x versions.

Downloads

Due to complaints about download speed on SourceForge, from this release onward we will also upload our binaries and source tarball on GitHub. This will be offered as a fallback in case of SourceForge downtime or slow download speed. The SourceForge download will still be here.

What's new?

The release candidate blogpost explains some of the more important changes from 1.1. But here is an overview:

Much better gamepad support, by using SDL2 instead of Irrlicht for window creation
        SuperTuxKart now support gamepad hotplugging
Most gamepad related bugs have been fixed as well
        Easier remapping

New settings to customize the game's camera
On Android, all official tracks are now included in the release build
A new "Cartoon" theme (the "Modern" theme previously announced) featuring an alternative icon set
An improved online rating system. Online rankings have been reset to go along with it.
The game's window can now be resized in-game without going in the options
    The minimap now shows basketballs
    Haiku support
In Android, use a custom splash screen at launch and a better progress indicator during data extraction after download
Any addon kart can now be used online even if other players don't have it.
Three improved karts : a new Kiki kart and improved Pidgin and Puffy karts
Add support for IPv6 LAN servers
Improved server creation speed and performance
In-game creation of a racing server is now possible on iOS devices
An improved tutorial with free-flow racing
    Support for SVG icons
    New tips for soccer mode
    Team chat for team games
And many many enhancements and fixes too small to be listed here, but that add up

What's next?

SuperTuxKart development efforts will continue in the 1.x series, with another release targeted in a few months. While not as catchy as brand new tracks, gameplay mechanics or graphics effects, the changes will once again improve player experience.

Beyond more polish, development on Vulkan support is planned to begin as well as general improvements in the rendering engine for more performance.
We have also sent another e-mail to previous contributors for the dual-licensing of STK code, with a more detailed background. Check here for information.

After this, our focus will switch to a 2.0 release that will deliver many new or overhauled tracks, gameplay changes, and much more. The work on improved tracks has already begun.

SuperTuxKart is a free open-source game that depends on community contributions. There is no shortage of things to work on for programmers and 3D artists alike.

How quickly the next releases will come and how much content they bring might also depend on you!

This 1.0 release adds support for networking races to SuperTuxKart. You can play with your friends online, and it doesn't have to be split screen anymore - your gaming partners can be in a different city, country, or even continent - you can still meet for a race or two. Cross-continent may not work the best; you should try to have a reasonable ping - 100ms works fine, and we had some races with 300ms ping, though unavoidable sudden stuttering and karts jumping around is more frequent at higher latencies. Even more important than the ping (unless it's abnormally high) is that there isn't packet loss or packet slowdowns (jitter), so a stable connection is required, especially for the server hosts. The bandwidth use is minimal even for hosting 10 players, so as long as you don't use a metered connection it should be fine for anyone with 150 kilobytes (~1.2 megabit) per second upload speed to spare. If that's still too much, less bandwidth is used with fewer players.

With the new version you can play various game modes online: normal race, time trial, soccer mode, battle mode and the new Capture-The-Flag mode. While you can easily start your own server (just select 'create server' in the GUI), the community also provides a set of servers to be used by everyone. Certain servers provide online ranking (since we have to make sure that the servers are not modified to favor certain players), and you can find the current rankings here. You can use one of the servers provided by the community. We would request that you do not abuse the servers provided by the community - they are meant to be used by everyone. If you want to play only with a certain set of friends, let SuperTuxKart create a server for you, and do not grab a public server and kick everyone else who wants to join.

Features

Over 20 tracks and battle arenas
    Split-screen multiplayer support
    Online Multiplayer Modes!

    Many game modes:

        Grand Prix
        Single Race
        Time Trial
        Follow-the-leader
        3-Strikes Battles
        Soccer Mode
        and the NEW Capture-The-Flag mode

    Funny characters
Runs on GNU/Linux, Windows, MacOSX, FreeBSD, Solaris and Android

The AI (computer kart) shot backwards—how can I do this?
Most items (bowling ball, cake, plunger) can be used backwards. Just fire them while looking backwards.

Can I play STK on the internet?
Yes! After creating an online STK account inside the game and connecting with it, select Select the "Online" button in the main menu then "Global networking" to access networked play trough the internet. You can host your own server for others to play on, or join community-hosted servers. For the best experience, a stable connection and a low ping to the server are important.

I suddenly got a big red circle on my screen, what's that?
If there's a penguin in the middle of the circle, someone's shot a plunger at your face. You can do that to others by shooting the plunger backwards (see the FAQ entry about throwing items backwards).

Can I use my Wii remote with STK?
Yes! See the Wiimote page for details.

  Where is the configuration stored?
* On Windows: It is in %APPDATA%/supertuxkart/config-0.10 (you can enter that in the Explorer and it will take you there)

On Linux: It is either in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/supertuxkart/config-0.10 (first choice), ~/.config/supertuxkart/config-0.10 (second choice) or in ~/.supertuxkart/config-0.10 (third choice).
On Mac OS X: It is in ~/Library/Application Support/supertuxkart/config-0.10. Note that this directory may be hidden.

You can also watch the output in the terminal to see if there is a note on where the config files are stored or search for a file called "config.xml".

How do I unlock all tracks?
The intended in-game way is to play story mode and beat all challenges. If however you want to unlock everything without playing story mode, you can also cheat by editing a config file. Open the folder mentioned above in question "Where does STK store the user config file". From there, open the folder "config-0.10" then open the file "players.xml". Replace all occurrences of "none" with "hard" (or "easy" or "medium", indicating the highest level at which you have solved a challenge).
