Open Office 3 / Or Apache Open Office 4 is QUITE a Piece of WORK!!! (Work wasn't the word Software Santa wanted to USE!!! Software Santa wanted to use the common word for excrement instead.)

Last version released 4.1.7 a YEAR AGO ... While LibreOffice is up to version 6 now - and has way more features!!! Apache Open Office HAS NO Developers - they ALL went to LibreOffice!!!! No Future - bad software - switch before you lose a month and a half's worth of work!!!

Use LibreOffice instead of Open Office! Download the LATEST Version of LibreOffice for your platform HERE: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/ and Save Yourself the GRIEF that Software Santa, and HUNDREDS of Others, have Experienced with OpenOffice!

(Warning!  All OpenOffice versions before 4.1.3 are affected by the Security Fault described in CVE-2015-1774: and all of them have a serious security vulnerability/DoS fault that requires you to MANUALLY remove a library from deep within your installation in order to repair it. LibreOffice does not have that same vulnerability. You are advised to switch from that highly insecure OpenOffice at once!)   LibreOffice is the BEST - and Most Secure - alternative to Microsoft Office.

Since 2005 ... OpenOffice has had a BIG PROBLEM with its Password Protected Documents SUDDENLY and for NO REASON becoming inaccessible to Open Office. The error code you ALWAYS Get is "The password is incorrect. The file cannot be opened.". The OpenOffice support forum is filled with desperate people begging for help because their CRITICAL Password Protected Files suddenly won't open. The Answer EVERY Time is "LibreOffice works! Thank you!!". And here. And HereAND HERE!!!! OpenOffice CANNOT Fix this problem they are TOO STUPID!!! So Spare Yourself the TROUBLE: get LibreOffice NOW!!!

It is said that "A Camel is a Horse Designed by a Committee." well .... "OpenOffice is Microsoft Office Designed by a Committee!"! AVOID It At ALL COSTS!!!!!!!

This Crappy Program CRASHED while saving a irreplaceable document. The program ACTUALLY DELETED the File from the file system - not trashed it: total instant deletion!!!!!

It was THEN that Software Santa discovered that the "Automatic Recovery" he THOUGHT OpenOffice was making, all along, was defective! "Automatic Recovery" is NOT the same feature as "Autobackup" and it is NOT Clear which one works properly when seen from the settings panel. Software Santa lost a MONTH and a HALF of Work: and has nothing but regrets that he EVER trusted OR used this BAD EXCUSE for an Office Suite!  >:(

DO NOT USE Apache Open Office: UNLESS you want to find out the HARD Way - someday - WHY Software Santa has nothing but hatred for, and regrets about EVER Using, this BAD PROGRAM!!!!!!!

Software Santa has had serious problems with Apache OpenOffice for quite some time now.

Why not to use Open Office:

(1. Without Warning: Suddenly Open Office CANNOT Open any Documents it has saved with Passwords!!! OpenOffice has had SERIOUS Problems with Password Protection for OVER 13 Years: Password Protection in OpenOffice is Defective and the Developers will not use it because THEY KNOW it is Not Reliable! https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=58966#p284314 "Having seen so many password related problems I would not myself use passwording." said the forum moderator with over 27200 Posts!!! Same Problem for these dozen People:  https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=68109#p332238 That Smart one writes "Never find out the reason neither the answer, I'm using LibreOffice since."! The STUPID Developers at OpenOffice Won't FIX This Problem: it won't affect THEM 'Cause they WON'T Use "Password Protection" themselves - and they DON'T CARE How much of YOUR Data you "Suddenly Can't Access"!  Guess What? LibreOffice CAN Open the Password Protected Files that Open Office SUDDENLY CANNOT OPEN Anymore!!!!! OpenOffice is DEFECTIVE: and Has SERIOUS Problems with its Haystack of Code "Under The Hood" - LibreOffice WORKS Correctly EVEN with OpenOffice Password Protected Documents.

(2. The "Automatic Recovery" of crashed documents does NOT work well, if AT ALL, on larger (> 100 pages) documents. Software Santa found out that the MOST Recent copy of the "Automatic Recovery" file in the Backups Folder was a Month and a Half OLD! Too bad he found that Automatic recovery data is EASILY Corrupted ... Right AFTER OpenOffice crashed ... so much for TRUSTING OpenOffice's "Automatic Recovery Feature" (you can not.)!

(3. OpenOffice CAN delete a file WITHOUT A TRACE - If it "Crashes" right in the Middle of the Save! It deletes the Original BUT Crashes JUST Before it saves the Updated Document: leaving you with NO FILE - not even in the TRASH!!! (and you'll find a non current recovery file in the Backup Folder)! Yeah, it is one-every-million saves that a file disappears: do YOU want to take that gamble with YOUR Irreplaceable Files AFTER Software Santa has lost one of HIS? TOO BAD for Software Santa ... and now he just wants to WARN YOU Not to use OpenOffice: before it becomes "Too Bad for YOU!!!!"

(4. OpenOffice can suddenly FAIL to save ANY Password Protected documents: it just gives you a useless error instead. "General error. General input/output error."  Prompting one user to type: "I [have] exactly the problem you describe. I can open files without password protection. But I cannot add password protection or open a file with password protection, copied from another computer. What gives????" - NO: they haven't fixed this problem YET!!!!!!

(5. Do not forget that ALL versions of OpenOffice or Apache Open Office versions before 4.1.3 are affected by a known Denial of Service (DoS) fault that requires you to MANUALLY remove a library from deep within your installation in order to repair it. LibreOffice does not have that same vulnerability. You are advised to switch from that highly insecure OpenOffice to LibreOffice at once!)

LibreOffice is the BEST - and Most Secure - alternative to Microsoft Office.
