GTUBE is a 68-byte test string used to test corporate mail anti-spam systems - especially systems based on Spam Assassin

GTUBE
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GTUBE ("Generic Test for Unsolicited Bulk Email") is a 68-byte test string used to test anti-spam systems, in particular those based on SpamAssassin. In SpamAssassin, it carries an antispam score of 1000 by default, which would be sufficient to trigger any installation.

Contents

The contents of the string are as follows:

XJS*C4JDBQADN1.NSBN3*2IDNEN*GTUBE-STANDARD-ANTI-UBE-TEST-EMAIL*C.34X

and should be placed in the message body of an RFC 5322

compliant email message, without any linebreaks or whitespaces.

There exist some varieties, notably the NAItube (which will carry a variable weight) and the GTphish (which will trigger specifically as a phishing mail), which are used in the McAfee implementation of SpamAssassin.

The GTUBE

This is the GTUBE -- the Generic Test for Unsolicited Bulk Email.

If your spam filter supports it, the GTUBE provides a test by which you can verify that the filter is installed correctly and is detecting incoming spam, in a similar fashion to the EICAR anti-virus test file.

Spam filter developers should add a rule, where possible, to recognize the following 68-byte string in the message body, and trigger on it:

  XJS*C4JDBQADN1.NSBN3*2IDNEN*GTUBE-STANDARD-ANTI-UBE-TEST-EMAIL*C.34X

Note that this should be reproduced in one line, without whitespace or line breaks. A suitable mail message in RFC-822 format can be downloaded here.

This string and mail can be reproduced freely, without attribution; they are hereby placed in the public domain.
