Description

This is a freeware Windowsâ„¢ and Linux game written for very simple playability and competition.

Bitrock Windows Installer includes downloadable source code component.

Once installed on your computer just tap the UP arrow once on your keyboard to start playing straight away.

The object is to keep your ski man (the red blob) between the fences (+ and +) for as long as possible using the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys whilst the course scrolls downwards and gradually gets narrower.
(If by a miracle you manage to reach 1000m, the course gets wider, then narrows gradually again)

That's it! It's a very simple game of skill.

It is available as a 32-bit or 64-bit edition for Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8  (if in doubt, download the 32-bit version). It installs and uninstalls as a regular Windowsâ„¢ application.

Retro Ski Run contains no advertisements nor malware.  It was written for fun, not profit.

The fences will change colour to:

Dark red as you pass your own high score for that course and difficulty level

Light red as you pass the all-time best score for that course and difficulty level

Every 100m or so, a sound effect will try to distract you. (you can turn off sound effects in the Options menu)

Note: Retro Ski Run 'remembers' the last course and level when it closes and will restore them when re-started.
Demo Mode

Pick any course and level, then click the Demo button.

This mode allows you to see what the course is like, and any difficult stretches ahead.  No score is recorded in Demo mode.
Your Player name

By default, the current Windowsâ„¢ login name is used to store your scores, but this is easily changed at any time.
Use the main screen Options menu and click 'Change player name'  You will not lose any scores gained under the original name.

Note that any saved options are specific to your computer.  If you copy the installed game folder to another computer, (or just the .cfg file) a new set of options are stored.
Courses and Levels

There are 5 ski courses in the game.
For each course, there are 3 'Levels' - level 1 is standard, whereas levels 2 and 3 are much faster and more difficult!
Pick your course and difficulty level from the main screen menus.

Scores and High Scores

Clicking the 'Hi-Scores' button will bring up the High Scores window.

When you first play Retro Ski Run, the User menu will have 2 entries.
Clicking your user name will bring up your best scores for each course and level.

Clicking the 'Best' entry will bring up the all-time best scores for all users.
If you click any score in the 'Best' table, it will show you which player achieved that score

Importing and Exporting high scores

Click on File/'Export all current Hi Scores to a .ski file'
All user's scores are saved to a file in your 'My Documents' folder, with the file extension '.ski'
This file can be imported back into Retro Ski Run by yourself or another user.

Click on File/'Import Hi Scores .ski file' to import your or another player's saved High Score Table.
The scores are merged so that only the highest score for any given player is imported.

A saved Hi Score .ski file can hold any number of player's scores, so can be used to exchange and compete with any number of other Retro Ski Run players.



Reset and Delete

In the High Scores window you can reset any player's scores for all courses and levels to zero with one click.

You can also delete any player (apart from yourself) along with their scores.


Replay Mode

After you gain a new high score you will be offered to 'Save as a Replay' and the Replay button will be enabled.

You can click Replay to see the replay or just start a new game by clicking Game, or just tap the UP arrow key.

If you save the game as a replay, it will be available at any time via the Replay menu.

Once you have saved a game, the Replay menu will be available.  It lists all saved replays.

Just clicking one of the Replay menu entries will start the appropriate replayed game immediately.

After a while, you may find the Replay menu gets cluttered with old replays, in which case click the Replay Maintenance item, and the Replay Maintenance window will appear.
