Kalaha is a strategy board and pebble game in the Mancala family

One of the many games written in Java with the Tjger game making system!

Kalaha

Kalaha is a strategy game in the Mancala family for two players (see Wikipedia).
The aim of the game is to collect more pebbles than the opponent.

By freely adjustable rules, it is also possible to play other variants - e.g. Bohnenspiel, Lamlameta, Obridjie, Vai lung thlan or Wauri.
However, it is also possible to create completely own variants.

Kalaha

1 Idea of the game
The game board consists of two rows of six pits, called houses. At each end of the board there is another pit, called store. Each player belongs the six houses on his side of the board and the store right to him.  At the beginning of the game all houses are filled with 3 stones.  The aim of the game is to collect more stones in the own store than the opponent.

1.1 Variants
The number of houses and stones per house can be adjusted. It is adjustable who is the winner. The direction of distribution is adjustable. In clockwise direction the store to the left belongs to the player.

2 Gameplay
2.1 Distribute stones
On a turn the player selects one of the own houses. Moving counter-clockwise, the player drops one stone in each house in turn, including the player's own store but not their opponent's.

2.1.1 Variants
It is adjustable if stones are distributed to the player's own store. It is adjustable if distribution is continued if the last stone is distributed to a house, which was filled before. It is adjustable if houses are skipped which have the initial amount of stones (except on the first move). The direction of distribution is adjustable. In clockwise direction the store to the left belongs to the player.

2.2 Extra move
If the last distributed stone lands in the player's store, the player gets an additional move. There is no limit on the number of moves a player can make in their turn.

2.2.1 Variants
It is adjustable if an extra move is available.

2.3 Capture
If the last distributed stone lands in an empty house owned by the player, and the opposite house contains stones, the last stone and the opposite stones are captured and placed into the player's store.

2.3.1 Variants
It is adjustable when capturing is triggered and which stones are captured.

2.4 Game End
If after a move all houses of the current player are empty, the game ends. The other player moves all remaining stones to their store, and the player with the most stones in their store wins.

2.4.1 Variants
It is adjustable that the game ends if all houses of the current player or of the next player are empty. It is adjustable if the remaining stones are transfered to the store. It is adjustable who is the winner.
