Description

VidCutter is a free, open source, cross-platform video editing program that allows you to perform various cut related actions to audio and video files.

This app aims to offer you quick edit experience. This software is available for Microsoft Windows, MacOS and Linux OS. We currently list only the Windows and MacOS versions; you can download the Linux version from here.

VidCutter Review

VidCutter offers a quick way to cut and edit video files up to 500 Mb. The maker says the size limit will be increased soon. The tool provides some essential functions that will get you started editing almost immediately without much learning.

There is no paid version, so you get all of the features in the free version. The app does not have all the bells and whistles of professional editing software, but this is its appeal. When the job calls for a simple cut and splice with some minimal manipulation of the images, VidCutter does a good job.

The Interface

When you open the software, the interface makes it visible where to begin. Large buttons show you where to open a file and play it. You will also see buttons for setting the start and end points for a clip. The clip index on the right of the screen gives you a place to review all of the clips you have made. This is one of the most user-friendly interfaces in the video editing space.

Notable Features

VidCutter allows you to rotate your video by 90, 180 and 270 degrees so you can turn portrait clips into landscape clips. You can also do the reverse.

The cropping feature makes it possible to frame the video so that you only use a specific area. This includes the ability to alter the shape of the frame.

You can choose the output type you would like, as well as selecting the quality you want. VidCutter handles all video formats, so you can use video from virtually any device you want.

It is easy to select the point where you would like the playback to begin. Just drag the playback icon to where you want it.

You can create several clips from the same video, and then save them to a file so you will have them in one place. The clips will be combined into one MP4. You also have the choice to save each clip into its file to keep all of your sections separate.

When clips appear in the clip index, you can drag and drop them to create a new order. This makes it easy to see your sequence as you edit.

The Bottom Line

This free software is right for those who want basic video editing capabilities and don’t want to wade through tons of instructions. Even professional editors may wish to use this app for those quick jobs that don’t require extensive tweaking. The owners of this software say they will never charge for it at any time in the future. You don’t have to think of this app as a free trial. It will remain free.
